The Office of the Sheriff has been imbedded in the culture and organization of American government since the founding of our nation.  The office has roots that extend back into medieval times as well. 

 

We are continuing to update this section with interesting facts and articles, as they pertain to Wayne County.  Please Follow the links on the following pages to learn more about where it all started.

Much of the Information Contained herein is courtesy of the Wayne County Historical Society.   We acknowledge their contribution and express our thanks for their assistance.  The historical society web page can be located at www.waynehistory.org  The society operates the Wayne County Museum which is located at 21 Butternut Street in the Village of Lyons.  The museum is open to the public.  Admission is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.  Historical society members are free.
