George W. Knowles Sheriff - 1890 through 1891

Sheriff Knowles was very active in the community and a shrewd business man. Prior to becoming Sheriff, he was a a partner in C.D. McDougal & Company and was an agent for the Merchants Express Co. on Water St in Lyons. Dabling in politics, Sheriff Knowles was the President (Mayor) of Lyons in 1873 before joining the Sheriff's Office.
